What is PEP?
PEP (post-exposure prophylaxis) is a 28-day course of antiretroviral tablets taken after a possible exposure to HIV, such as condomless sex, a broken condom, sexual assault or a needle-stick injury. It works by stopping the virus from establishing infection in your body.

As soon as possible — ideally within a few hours, and no later than 72 hours after the possible exposure. The sooner PEP is started, the better it works. After 72 hours PEP is no longer recommended, but you should still get tested and advised.
When started early and taken every day for the full 28 days, PEP greatly reduces the chance of HIV infection. It is not 100%, which is why daily adherence and follow-up testing matter.
A short consultation, a baseline HIV test (plus kidney and hepatitis B checks where needed), then a 28-day course of antiretroviral tablets, usually taken once or twice daily. You take your first dose at the clinic.
Modern PEP regimens are generally well tolerated. Some people have mild nausea, headache or tiredness in the first days, which usually settles. Your doctor will tell you what to watch for.
Yes. Your consultation and results are strictly confidential. You can register with a first name only, and nothing is shared with employers, embassies or insurers.
